Take It Outside! Deck and Patio Options for Your Seattle Home

deck patio renovations seattleSometimes when you think about home renovation you need to think outside the box. Often we focus on improving and expanding the area inside our home. But for some people it just makes sense to take it outside. If you enjoy relaxing outside in the fresh air with your family and friends, adding a patio or a custom deck can really open up your home. The good news is that you have a lot of options when it comes to taking advantage of outside space to extend your living space.

Decks are a great way to enjoy sitting, grilling, eating, or lounging outdoors. And just because we get a lot of rain in the Seattle area doesn’t mean you have to stay inside. Many homeowners solve the precipitation problem by building decks that are partially—or even completely covered. That way a little light rain won’t ruin your barbeque. And when the sun is shining, you can enjoy that as well. And these days you don’t have to worry about wood rot from all the rain. New synthetic deck materials can stand up to the elements for a lot longer than wood. They never need treatment and they look great, too!

Patios are another great option for people who want to spend a bit more time outside of the walls of their home. But if a patio makes you think of a simple concrete slab with a few lawn chairs on it—think again! Today’s well-designed patios can incorporate fire pits, fireplaces, grills, stone or concrete tables, and more. For some families the patio replaces the family room or den as their gathering place during the summer months.

Decks or patios can be custom built to your specifications so that they fit your specific lifestyle. So next time you start to feel the onset of cabin fever, think about taking it outside!
